DETROIT (AP) – Tesla is recalling nearly 1.1 million vehicles in the U.S. because the windows could pinch people’s fingers when rolled up.

Tesla says in documents posted Thursday by US safety regulators that the automatic window reversing system may not react properly after detecting an obstacle.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it violates federal safety standards for power windows. An online software update will fix the problem, Tesla said.

The recall covers 2017 through 2022 Model 3 sedans and some 2020 and 2021 Model Y SUVs. It also includes some 2021 and 2022 Model S sedans and Model X SUVs.

Tesla encountered problems during production testing in August. Owners will be notified by letter starting November 15. The company says in the document that vehicles in production will get an update starting September 13.

Tesla is not aware of any warranty claims or injuries due to the problem as of September 16, according to the document.
