Mizzou, KU tie again on US News & World Report college list

KU-MU’s rivalry is not limited to football or basketball. The two universities of the country continue to be neck-and-neck US News & World Report‘s Best College rankings.

The 2023 list, released last week, shows the University of Kansas and the University of Missouri tied at No. 121 in the national school ranking. The two schools are tied on the 2022 list, too, though one level lower in the rankings.

Kansas State University is tied with nine other colleges at No. 166 on the list.

Meanwhile, the University of Missouri-Kansas City continues to look up in the larger school, ranking No. 263. That’s a slip more than a dozen spots from the previous year.

Notable rankings among Kansas City-area schools include William Jewell College, ranked No. 6, and Rockhurst University, ranked No. 26, in the list of Midwest regional colleges. Liberty-based William Jewell moved up two spots, and Rockhurst took two off the 2022 list.

The US News & World Report rankings are a source of controversy due to claims that some universities – including the biggest names in universities – are trying to game the system to improve their position. But controversy exists because the list ranks high with students’ families when exploring prospective colleges.
