Kansas sports bar betting on the increase in business from sports wagering

LEAWOOD, Kan. – starting Thursday, September 1, you can place your sports bets in several Kansas Casino sports books and via online mobile apps.

Hollywood Casino will open its temporary sportsbook Barstool Sports at noon Thursday. But casinos are not the only ones gearing up for sports betting.

Businesses on the Kansas side of the state line and even some nearby in Missouri bet that the online sports book will bring out bettors to the bar.

At Bogeys Windy City Pub many customers have their betting app.

“I have BET MGM and Draft Kings,” one customer displayed.

Kansas sports bar can not offer sports betting, but they are happy to serve customers who have a new rooting interest in the game and want to watch after placing bets on their phone.

“It’s easy to spend money when you just click a few buttons,” says Bogey owner Niki Haberscroh.

SportsHandle.com editor Jill Dorson says states with sports betting borders and people who don’t have it like Missouri usually cash in.

“It’s not unusual. In New York and New Jersey you will continue to hear stories before New York goes live about people driving into New Jersey or going halfway across the bridge and turning back,” Dorson said.

Across the board at The Peanut, sports are a big part of their business.

“It’s a big deal we have football season which will drive our efforts towards basketball season of course we have a lot of KU fans. Leawood is a stone’s throw away,” said Max Ladet.

So close, but as gamblers can learn the phrase, still so far. Geo Fencing on the phone should prevent fans from placing wagers on the game from the Missouri side, but the beans do not think it will hurt their efforts. In fact, they believe it can help them as customers can make wagers across the street from their cars.

“We will be packed more than normal people who will hang out from the beginning of Sunday to the end of Sunday probably and they will gamble that will happen. If you have been to a sports book before we bet and there is a friendly they are the same,” said Ladet .

A lot of high fiving has happened among those in the industry as of the 32 states that now have sports betting Kansas was the second fastest to get it to happen after being approved. Of course it’s just in time for football season with College Football kicking off in earnest this weekend and the NFL next week.
