Helping customers after a truck hits a Kansas City coffee shop

Kansas City, Mo. – An eastside coffee shop is working to clean up after an accident forced to temporarily close its doors.

The truck driver lost control and crashed Anchor Island Coffee near 41st and Troost earlier this week.

According to the store’s Facebook page, the landlord did not have adequate insurance to cover the necessary repairs to the building. Since it is a commercial property, it is the landlord’s responsibility to insure the building.

Anchor Island Coffee is still waiting for its insurance agent to appraise the property to see if the policy will cover the repairs.

The owners say they are looking at fighting the landlord in court, or covering repairs themselves to reopen as soon as possible.

The customer started a GoFundMe account in hopes of raising money to help the owner rebuild. In just one day ACCOUNT Raised more than $11,000 for the business.
